The link below is to a documentary about 6 people from all across the United States with type 1 & 2 diabetes & their attempt to reverse the disease with a raw food diet. The film is a nonstop factual expedition into a subject too many people know too little about, that being their health & the role their diet plays in it. Even in a time that people all around the planet are becoming more health conscious there are still so many who don’t listen or don’t care about the role diet plays in our lives. The fact that the NY times has labeled diabetes “uncurable” and you can seemingly reverse the disease by simply switching to a raw, vegan diet says alot about how far we have to come in tackling this pandemic & also about our understandings of ourselves and how our bodies work.

I’m oh so ready to pack up my stuff. What little I have but you know its enough. The endeavor is great. It shall take determination, which happens to be in abundance right now. The oldest ending in the book forms this new beginning. Even though predictable its always worth grinning, because the truth is its time for this change. You can’t always have patience with what is right or you’ll often be up wondering late at night. wondering what? depends on who, because what is right may be different to you, than it is to me. Actually this I gaurentee. We all must find whats personally right. Hopefully unselfishly to others delight, but my patience is thin in this place I live in. I hope everyone understands, well actually respects, the decision for which I speak of in this text. I feel as if my work here is done. The roots are in place and to continue to grow, I need a new pot with new soil you know. So together we venture my lady and me, or if you will these two grown up trees, hoping to find what is right, what is free. the perfect conditions for her and for me. I love you all and to all of my peers everyone of you is worth every one of my tears. As for my kin, don’t know how to begin. I thank you so much for accepting who I am and having faith I’d grow to be a good man. Mother my debt to you is unpayable, maybe some day that will change but for now I’d like you to know how I feel, I’ll be the first to say that its true that I express my true feelings too little. My respect for you is beyond all words, all comprehension, and it gets on my nerves how little I’ve spent telling these things to you. I hope you understand & I sure that you do. Thank you so much for being such a great mother. If it wasn’t for you who knows where I’d be. The road at times has been bumpy & I haven’t always quite understood that everything you’ve taught me was for the good. I now understand & I must confess that I know at times I caused you much stress. I know it was hard, your perseverance was great, you would have given an arm or really your life. thanks for not giving up on me mom I cannot repay you in all of my life. Terry Sr. father, dad, old man. Things between us have been complicated at times, aside from that fact I still can’t deny that I’ll miss you as well, you have put me through hell, I’m better for it though as far as I can tell. We’ll be seperated by much land and different weather, but lets be honest we get along better when we don’t live together.. I promise we’ll talk & i’ll send lots of pictures. I’m not writing this to preach my lessons, but take care of yourself dad because its my confession that we still have alot of talking to do and when I visit I’m going to want to see you. Now on to Caty, who’s become quite a lady. I’m constantly impressed with who you are as a person, so independent & ready to tackle lifes burdens. Your confidence is going to take you far in this life. Don’t let anyone stop you from doing your thing. Believe in yourself you could do anything. We’ve talked alot more in the last couple years, because we’ve had the same jobs & similar peers. Caty I ask you to promise me this, that we won’t become siblings that cease to exist. I’ll always want to talk to you & that goes for everyone else here too. Its important for me that we keep in touch, cuz too many people take family for granted too much. So Caty open your computer & have a look, you’ll find that I made an account for facebook (you better add me).. I love you all from the bottom of my heart. Keep that in mind as I make this fresh start.

I think some Americans are actually proud of their ignorance. I don’t know how or why but its become obvious. Its really hard to come to any other conclusion when you hear people say obsurd things that are completely factually false, yet they believe what they say and refuse to look any deeper. Like people who say dinosaurs are a hoax. Its as if people are willing to give up all of history and base their entire worldview on whatever makes them feel warm inside. Those religious folks that are having 20 kids at a time and completely sheltering them from any contact with the outside world take the cake. Not only is that unfair to the children, but its a scary thought that they are raising blind sheep by the truckload. Intelligent people may be extinct if they have their way, we’d live under the rule of a king in a society that nobody questions anything. I’m sorry but at that point I’d hope for violent aliens

I’m not a parent & I’m not sure what the future holds for me as far as that goes, but one thing I do know is many parents out there could use some pointers, unfortunately I’m sure their all too stubborn to take good advice. I know if I was a parent I’d be very open with my child. I know many people who feel they have great relationships with their children and think they would tell them anything but most of the time thats not true. Most American kids are very uncomfortable to say the least when it comes to talking to their parents about things like drugs, sex, & any ideas that lay outside the norm, and usually they have good reason to be fearful of how their parents might react, or that they’ll take it the wrong way. This to me is a fundamental problem with our culture. We often try so hard to craft children into something thats near impossible to live up to. First off parents should be open with their children about all aspects of life. What is it that people are so afraid of? If we spent less time trying to shelter and hide things from our young and more time educating them about certain things I think we’d have a more mature society in general. Why is it that we constantly tell children not to lie, but at the same time half of what they’re taught growing up is a lie? The tooth fairy, santa claus, and church in my opinion represent this hypocracy. Instead of telling your child not to smoke while puffing on a cigarette just be more open & explain how you made the mistake of trying something once and ended up addicted to it (when you probably knew better). There are countless examples where being open could help a relationship and in my opinion help raise a more level headed person. To stick with that example, even if your open with your kids & they still end up smoking as adults it doesn’t mean that it wasn’t a good decision, because certain things are just out of your control, but I can almost gaurentee that treating your child with respect & being honest will help preserve a long lasting relationship. One perfect example I can think of has to do with my girlfriend and her mom. My girlfriend enjoys smoking cannabis (has since I’ve known her), so does her mom. They both know one another smoke yet they rarely speak about it & have never smoked together. This to me makes no sense & the only reason its like that is because of a lack of transparency from her mom growing up(i’m sure alot of this has to do with the paranoia factor involved with something illegal). Bottom line, if you want your children to talk to you about their life don’t make yourself such an intimidating figure. Don’t make situations awkward that don’t have to be. Think about when you were a kid & how you felt about the outdated style & philosophy of your parents and having to take orders that you felt made no sense. Is that the type of parent you want to be. Parents should be able to be peers & mentors to their kids. Believe it or not you can be real and be a good parent. Why not stop worrying so much and trying to dictate who your child becomes and instead embrace them as they are? Many parents really are the problem these days & it would help if they’d accept that the methods they use to teach their children may be flawed. I understand that its difficult to drop the whole “I’m right because I’m the parent” mentality, but like I said it should be your goal to be a coworker rather than a boss to your kids, because once you gain their respect it becomes easier to be a good parent. The fact is if your not honest with your kids someone down the road will be, and its not gonna make you look too good in their eyes when they realize certain things. Lately I’ve been thinking that our society might end up like the movie “idiocracy” in which evolution stops rewarding intelligence & the stupidest most dominator type people takeover the planet. Maybe thats why things are the way they are, maybe its only the stupid people that are having kids these days. The rest of us are either too weary to bring new life into this chaotic world, or planning on adopting.

I just read that a response to the conservative tea baggers movement is underway. Its called the coffee party & it seems like something I could actually jive with. Instead of gathering a group of angry white folks to complain about everything they disagree with, this movement is all about getting together with people in coffee shops all across the country to constructively discuss the areas in which people agree. To me it makes alot more sense to talk about these areas of concesus rather than about things that make us angry. I’d like to see political actions like this gain some traction in the future because there is nothing this country could use more than an intelligent & engaged public.

If your content with the way the media handles itself these days then my friend there is something wrong. It seems everyone that has half a brain complains about the media one way or another. Whether its the Texas news of FOX or the far left opinions of MSNBC or the corporate suit wearers at CNN its hard to not have a problem with Television news these days. Pretty much all newscasts seem like corporate propaganda. Instead of showing people the news they need to see, we’re being shown what we want to see or in some cases what they want us to see. The fact that you can choose a news station that fits your political perspectives & not get any outside opinions says to me that as a culture we are afraid of the truth. People that don’t like the president tune in to one station, those who oppose the republicans tune into another station. Those of us who are smart get our news from many sources on the internet, but corporations will probably soon have supreme control over that medium as well if cybersecurity laws get through the governmental bodies of the world. I think we need to see a media reform take place. If you ask me it’d be a good idea to put some rules in place for media to follow. I don’t care if you want to watch foxnews, but I think it should be classified as some sick, perverted political sattire & not news. Newscasts should be void of partisan politics & opinions. I mean just imagine if we actually made up our own minds instead of being told what to think.

This is an article right off of AOL.com, which is normally a pretty damn conservative media outlet. It pretty much debunks all the fear being spread by those protecting the health insurance companies.

Ten Wrong Reasons to Oppose Health Reform

1. It is socialism. The Democratic plan would add about 15 million people over 10 years to Medicaid, the existing federal-state program now serving about 60 million poor and low-income Americans. It also would provide subsidies to middle-income families to help them buy private coverage. The bottom line, however, is there is no new government health program in the bill. The House passed a government-run plan (the “public option”) in its health bill, but the Senate bill doesn’t have one and the final product won’t, either. Private insurance companies would not only survive under this bill, they would get millions of new customers. That doesn’t sound like socialism.

2. It is a government takeover. The federal government would certainly be more involved in regulating insurance companies. The government would also set up and regulate a competitive new exchange, or marketplace, where small businesses and the uninsured could buy coverage. But the coverage would all be plans offered by private companies. The bill is, in fact, designed to preserve employer-based health benefits and the private insurance industry. So, increased government role, yes. Government takeover, no.

3. It is being “rammed through.” There’s a 100-year history of failed presidential attempts to achieve universal health coverage. The topic was discussed at length throughout the 2007-2008 presidential campaign. Since last January, it has consumed 15 months of hearings, legislating and debate in Congress. The House passed its bill in November and the Senate, by a 60-40 super-majority, passed its version in December. Take your pick — a century, three years, 15 months — but this doesn’t meet any definition of “ramming.”

4. Reconciliation is “ramming” AND cheating. Reconciliation is a Senate budget process instituted 30 years ago. Since reconciliation bills can’t be filibustered, they need only 51 votes to pass — so everybody uses them to get things done. A chart of 15 major reconciliation initiatives in last weekend’s New York Times shows that Republicans have used the process many more times than Democrats. And we’re not talking small ball. Republican presidents have signed reconciliation bills that, among other things, cut welfare benefits, expanded health coverage, raised taxes, reduced taxes and overhauled the student aid system. In this case, reconciliation will be used to amend a bill that’s already passed the Senate with 60 votes. Cataclysmic, as Sen. John McCain put it? I think not.

5. It is unconstitutional. The bill requires every American to buy health insurance, including healthy people, and offers subsidies to help middle-income families. Insurance companies sought the mandate, saying it is the only way to keep premium costs from skyrocketing once they are not allowed to deny coverage to people with pre-existing medical conditions, drop sick people or limit annual and lifetime coverage (all popular provisions of the health bill). The mandate would not be the first imposed by state or federal governments — they already require people to buy car insurance, buckle seat belts and wear motorcycle helmets, not to mention make sure their children are educated. Conservatives used to promote the health insurance mandate on grounds of personal responsibility. It’s the law in Massachusetts.

6. It has sleazy special deals. The most notorious are the Cornhusker Kickback for Nebraska (permanent federal payments for Medicaid expansion) and the Florida exemption (seniors there would get to keep private Medicare Advantage plans that cost more than regular Medicare and are subsidized by taxpayers). The final package will not have these special deals. For procedural reasons, House members must first approve the Senate bill, which does include them, but the “fix” package — possibly to be voted on the same day — will remove them.

7. It would penalize senior citizens by cutting Medicare. The Senate bill would save more than $400 billion over 10 years by ending subsidies to Medicare Advantage and reducing projected payments to insurance companies, hospitals, drug companies and other players (some have already agreed to keep prices down). Seniors in regular Medicare would get the same benefits they have now, as well as additional services, like free preventive care. The AARP, which has 40 million members over age 50, says it supports health reform because it will put Medicare on a sounder fiscal footing.

8. It would do too little to curb costs. Amazingly, some people argue both No. 7 and No. 8. There are, in fact, many provisions intended to control costs. They include financial incentives for doctors and hospitals to provide efficient, coordinated care (rather than getting reimbursed for every test, procedure and hospital readmission); research into what treatments work best; a focus on preventive services and chronic care; pilot programs on ways to limit malpractice suits and awards; and an independent advisory board to recommend cost-saving changes in Medicare. These and other cost-cutting steps are described here.

9. It isn’t popular. Did voters in Virginia, New Jersey and Massachusetts send clear messages — by electing Republicans — that they don’t want this health package? Inconclusive at best. The economy is almost always the primary factor in election outcomes. Beyond that, Democrats had exceptionally weak candidates in all three states. The latest national poll from Gallup found slightly more people saying they’d advise their representative to vote against rather than for health reform. In a new poll from The Economist, 53 percent said they support Obama’s proposed changes to the health care system. It’s fair to say the country is split. In any case, Obama and Congress are not bound by polls.

10. It doesn’t give us the same coverage as Congress. Actually, Congress is trying to provide similar coverage through these state exchanges. They are modeled on the Federal Employees Health Benefits Plan, which looks like this. The offerings are mostly from private insurers and every federal employee — including members of the House and Senate — pays for his or her own coverage. In time, I’m betting people who get coverage at work will be jealous of those who get it on the exchanges. They’ll have choices, just like Congress does. Eventually the exchanges may open up to the rest of us as well.

I really wish Americans were smarter. It seems like all you hear these days from those opposed to healthcare reform is the same old jive about socialized medicine, big gov., and government controlling your healthcare. The funniest part of all this to me is that most Americans cannot even properly describe what socialism is & are unaware that elements of our society are infused with socialism already. Yes, thats right many of our governmental policies are already socialist ideas (and have been for decades). In fact every major modern democracy is basically a mixture of socialist and capitalist ideas. People have no idea how dumb they sound when they talk about how bad socialism is and how they’ll do anything to stop it, yet they all seem to love good ol medicare. You fucking morons, medicare is complete socialism. Your basically saying “we must stop this new socialism from cutting our current socialism”. It really shows how blindly these people will follow their religious/political leaders even when those leaders are only looking to maintain the current situation from which they are benefitting. When you pay money in the form of taxes to your government and recieve a supposed service for it thats socialism.. (hmm sounds familiar) unemployment, medicare, police/fireman, the post office, and every other national service paid for by taxes in a way is socialism. My view is that if we’re going to be paying taxes saving lives seems like something people should be willing to pay for. When Bush was president my tax money was going who knows where while the rich got huge breaks on their taxes. At least under this administration our tax money would help people survive. A huge problem with our culture these days is a mentality that says “I got mine, so fuck you”. It may sound a little corny but people really need to look at humanity as one big family, stop focusing on nothing but personal satisfaction and wealth, and realize that in order to solve our problems its going to take cooperation from all of us. The type of society that the current republicans promote is an ownership society, a society in which the rich are very privelaged because your government would have little power to help the poor. They want to privatize everything & dismantle all governmental programs that help the poor, creating a world in which we all fear our neibors & nobody can afford insurance of any kind, a world in which social security or anything like it doesn’t exist, so you better have done well and saved up money by the time your old or guess what, FUCK YOU. The right has always talked about rewarding hard work & that people should keep what they earn but the end result to that sort of thinking seems to be a world in which nobody helps anyone else and the gap between rich and poor widens dramatically, it would be every man & women for themselves if they had their way. So if your one of the many on the opposition boat stop and think for a moment whether all this is really worth opposing & take a good hard look at the people telling you to oppose it & how they live their lives, because every single member of congress that opposes the health bill has great health insurance. I said in the beginning that I wished the American people were smarter. By the 2008 presidential election we had gotten so far off course as to where the American people wanted to be under the leadership of these corporate henchmen that even an uninformed public like America had enough and said.. I’m going to vote for this guy because he’s smarter than me & something must be done. Ok so now we have this new president, and democratically controlled congress, all we have to do is let them try out their ideas. Isn’t that why we elected them in the first place? because we liked their ideas. So lets give them a shot & see if their policies help us. If they don’t I can assure you that the ownership society crowd will still be around to repeal it if thats what needs to happen in the future. I just don’t want to see this country continue to get tricked time and time again by the power and money of corporate interests & the politicians whose campaigns they finance. Its easy to dissect a comprehensive healthcare bill and find things you don’t like, but as far as I can see the oppositions arguments are pretty trivial. Abortion for instance has always been a sensitive issue, but there is nothing in the legislation that would dramatically change the current status of abortion in this country. Besides abortion the only arguments I hear are fearbased, like death panels(which is false, and frustrating that such a fabrication became such a focal point in the debate), and all these big gov. arguments that are obviously directed at stirring up those confused ass tea baggers. Point being we shouldn’t let these people convince us that these miniscule issues should stop us from helping some 30 million people. Healthcare legislation passing would be a win-win if you ask me, because people that have coverage generally like it but think its getting too expensive, and the more people we get insured the less it will cost for those who already have it. You see a win-win, people without coverage get coverage, and people who already have it save money.
